4th Edition May 6 to 9, 2026
Lac de Tremelin (35)
900 km
Road
solo or pair
The Road Tro Breizh is a self-supported, ultra cycling event set in Brittany. The challenge relies entirely on navigation, as participants must connect mandatory segments and checkpoints designated by the organizers using the roads of their choice.
The Road Tro Breizh – Road Ultra-Distance:
Brittany, a land of sailors and skippers, is resolutely turned toward the ocean.Yet, this vast territory also boasts a incredibly dense network of secondary roads — a true playground to explore on a road bike.
It is precisely this diversity, between land and sea, that the 4th edition of the Road Tro Breizh invites you to discover.
This edition of the Road Tro Breizh draws a parallel between ultra-cycling and great offshore sailing races like the Vendée Globe. From May 6 to 9, 2026, come brave the elements and step into the legend of the greatest sailors.Hold your course for 485 nautical miles (900 km) through a mix of mandatory segments and free navigation to connect the most mythical lighthouses at the edge of Brittany.

Between Mandatory Sectors and Free Navigation :
During the event, navigation alternates between mandatory sectors and checkpoints to be connected using the roads of your choice.
It’s very simple:
- The Starting and Finishing Pontoons are identical – Start and finish at the Lac de Trémelin (in the town of Iffendic), located 30 km west of Rennes and its TGV train station. A mandatory “start channel” route will launch you into your 900 km assault. Similarly on the way back, a “finish channel” will await you to celebrate your journey, just like a skipper who has triumphed over the hardships of the ocean!
- 3 Mandatory Sectors to be ridden in full – These are handpicked zones selected for their stunning landscapes along the most beautiful backroads of Brittany.
- 3 Resupply Zones – These act as mandatory checkpoints.
- 6 Lighthouses located on the Breton headlands (Cap Sizun and Pays d’Iroise) – True beacons for your navigation, you must pass near these mythical Breton lighthouses.
For this 4th edition, a single distance :
Roughly 485 nautical miles—about 900 km—depending on your route choices in the free navigation zones.
- Go Solo or in a Duo – Take on the challenge entirely self-supported or share the adventure as a pair.
- A Self-Supported Event – Just like the skippers of the Vendée Globe, you must manage your own mechanical issues, resupply, and sleep schedule. The parallel between ultra-distance cycling and offshore racing is absolute!
- Beat the Clock – To finish within the time limit, you must be back before late Saturday afternoon, May 9.
- Live Tracking – Participants will be equipped with MADCAP trackers so followers can track their progress on a dedicated app. Trackers will also be used to verify that all mandatory sectors and checkpoints have been cleared.
- True Breton Beauty – Because Brittany is just as beautiful from its quiet backroads, the Hermine offers you a challenge that lives up to our other legendary events!
- Limited to 99 Riders – This 4th edition of the Road Tro Breizh is strictly capped at 99 competitors.
- Promoting Diversity – To encourage inclusivity and gender balance in ultra-distance cycling, the organizers reserve the right to prioritize female entries—notably by accepting all women’s registrations even if the event is officially sold out.
A single start/finish venue for 3 of our events :
The Road Tro Breizh will take place from May 6 to 9, 2026, at the exact same venue as the 9th Gravel Tro Breizh and the 2nd GTB Series. A full week of celebration and racing, where participants and competitors from all three events will cross paths.
On Saturday evening, May 9, a massive closing party will bring together all competitors from the three events to celebrate!
Start and Finish – Lac de Trémelin / Iffendic, Brittany, France
The starting and finishing “pontoons” are located at the Lac de Trémelin outdoor recreation center, just 30 km from Rennes and its TGV train station. If needed, you can take a regional TER train to Montfort-sur-Meu station, which gets you within 10 km of the start venue.
A “start channel” will guide you through the first few kilometers as you set off on your journey. Similarly on the way back, a “finish channel” will log your final time, allowing you to cross the finish line just like a skipper who has triumphed over the hardships of the ocean !
This year, we are bringing three of our events together at the same venue and on the same dates: the 4th edition of the Road Tro Breizh, the historic Gravel Tro Breizh, and its little sister, the GTB Series Spring Edition.
It’s the perfect opportunity to gather, connect, and share a friendly moment around a massive celebration of ultra-distance cycling!
3 Mandatory Sectors on the Quiet Backroads of Central Brittany:
- Sector 1: 43 km along the quiet backroads of the Blavet Valley (Morbihan).
- Sector 2: 102 km through the Finistère countryside and the Black Mountains (Montagnes Noires) of central Brittany.
- Sector 3: 94 km across the Monts d’Arrée – A perfect parallel to Cape Horn, with its wild landscapes and weather that can change in a matter of minutes!
These sectors are mapped out on quiet, peaceful roads, but do not underestimate the elevation gain, which could seriously complicate your task.

3 Mandatory Resupply Zones :
These act as mandatory checkpoints, allowing you to rest for a few moments and refuel before heading back out to tackle the route.
Un Rayon de Blé Noir crêperie at Lac de Guerlédan.
The shop of our partner Lyophilise & Co at Lorient La Base (the offshore racing hub).
O’Donnell’s Pub in Portsall, Northern Finistère.
6 Lighthouses to Navigate Toward :
These mandatory checkpoints will take you all the way to the rugged tips and jagged coastlines of Brittany. Facing the ocean like a sailor on deck, you will have to brave the Breton weather, which can be notoriously unpredictable. Just like rounding a maritime buoy, your passage will be validated by riding to the foot of these lighthouses, or as close as possible for those located offshore. Exact details will be provided in the Route Guide sent to you upon registration.
- Eckmühl Lighthouse – Pointe de Saint-Pierre, Penmarch
- La Vieille Lighthouse – Raz de Sein / Pointe du Raz
- Saint-Mathieu Lighthouse – Pointe de Saint-Mathieu, Plougonvelin
- CROSS Corsen – Regional Operational Center for Monitoring and Rescue, Plouarzel
- Trézien Lighthouse – Pointe de Corsen, Plouarzel
- Île Vierge Lighthouse – Plouguerneau (The tallest lighthouse in Europe)
Unless you want to double your mileage, the order of these checkpoints follows a pretty natural sequence!

Free Routing Between Sectors, Checkpoints, and Milestones :
Between these mandatory points, you are the absolute captain of your course: it is up to you to chart the best route! But beware—the shortest path isn’t always the fastest… you will have to factor in both the elevation gain and the wind!
Optional Technical Support Zones
In case of a mechanical failure, two partner bike shops will be available. Former participants of our events work at these locations, so you can expect a warm welcome if you run into trouble! You can, of course, bypass their services or find other shops along the way. As a reminder, this is a self-supported event: neither the organizers, fellow competitors, nor family and friends are permitted to assist you with repairs.
Trackers and Route Guide
Every competitor will be equipped with a GPS tracker for real-time location tracking. A live map will also be available on our partner MADCAP’s mobile app. This tracker will also serve to validate your mandatory checkpoints, proving you cleared the sectors and rode past the lighthouses.
The Route Guide
A comprehensive guide detailing all mandatory segments (complete with GPX tracks) and the validation procedures for the lighthouse checkpoints will be sent to you following your registration.

Key Regulations
Below are several critical rules. The full, comprehensive rulebook is available in the Rider Guide via [this link]:
- Event Format: The Road Tro Breizh is a non-competitive, long-distance sports challenge run in the spirit of a brevet.
- The Self-Support Principle: This event is strictly self-supported. Participants must be entirely self-sufficient regarding accommodation, food, and any mechanical or physical issues.
- Commercial Assistance Only: The only authorized assistance is what you can commercially find along the route (shops, restaurants, hotels, etc.). Due to the pure adventure spirit we want to preserve, volunteers at checkpoints are not permitted to assist you.
- Trail Magic: Trail magic—unplanned assistance from locals met along the route—is allowed, provided it is entirely un-premeditated and the person is a stranger to you.
- No Advance Booking: To respect the true spirit of adventure, booking accommodation before the official start is strictly prohibited. Given the long-distance format, unpredictable weather, and mechanical or physical variables, planning a set schedule in advance is nearly impossible. Once the clock starts, you are completely free to book accommodation on the fly.
- Age Limit: Participants must be at least 18 years old at the time of the start. Minors, even if accompanied by an adult or parent, will not be accepted.
- Medical Fitness: You must be medically fit for ultra-distance events. No medical certificate is required; you are responsible for managing your own health and physical exams.
- Solo Entry Rules: Solo participants must be fully autonomous. Sharing equipment, tools, or supplies between different participants is strictly forbidden. The Road Tro Breizh is, above all, a solo adventure.
- Duo Entry Rules: Duos must ride together for the entire duration of the event and remain self-sufficient. Sharing equipment with other duos or solo riders is prohibited.
- Rider Interaction: The only authorized support between independent participants is moral support.
- Registration: No selection process. First come, first served. The field is strictly limited to 99 participants.
Mandatory Equipment & Safety
- Helmets: Wearing a helmet is mandatory at all times.
- Visibility: A high-visibility vest must be worn at nightfall or during low-visibility conditions.
- Lighting: Your bike must be equipped with a functional white front light and a red rear light.
- E-Bikes: Electric-assist bicycles (E-bikes) are strictly prohibited.
Infractions & Disqualifications
- Penalties: In case of non-compliance with the rules (especially regarding outside assistance), the organizers will issue time penalties up to total disqualification.
- Illegal Roads: Participants who ride on roads forbidden to bicycles (such as expressways or motorways) will be immediately disqualified.
- Ferries & Shuttles: The use of ferries, water taxis, or public shuttles is strictly forbidden.
- Routing Choices: Participants are free to choose their own roads and tracks between the mandatory segments and checkpoints. These routing choices must be entirely personal and cannot be shared or coordinated among different participants.
Specific Rules for the Duo Category
- Both participants must register individually (2 separate registrations per team).
- The pair must stay together at all times and cannot split up to ride independently.
- If one member scratches (abandons), the remaining rider may finish the course but will be unranked (hors course).
The “Self-Supported” Spirit
By registering for the Road Tro Breizh, you commit to respecting its rules, particularly the self-support rule. These regulations exist to ensure all competitors are on a level playing field.
Please consult [this document] outlining the primary restrictions associated with the self-supported format. Penalties up to immediate exclusion from the event will be strictly enforced for riders who violate these rules!
